Andrea Mitchell
Andrea Mitchell (born in New York City) is a American television journalist, commentator anchor and commentator for NBC News based at Washington D.C. Mitchell holds a bachelor's degree in English language from the University of Pennsylvania. In 1967 Mitchell was hired as a reporter at KYW Radio and TV in Philadelphia. In 1976, she was a CBS affiliate WDVM-TV. (then WTOP in Washington DC). After two years, she joined NBC News as a Washington correspondent. The year 1980 marked the beginning of her coverage of the White House. 1988 became the chief congressional journalist. Mitchell was named the chief White House correspondent by NBC News in 1992. Mitchell appeared as both an anchor and a panelist on the TV news program Meet the Press. She served as a panelist in the presidential debates in 1988 between George Bush and Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is the wife of Alan Greenspan former chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell was awarded in 2005 the Goldsmith Career Award in Journalism at the John F. Kennedy School of Government. And in 2004 the Radio-Television News Directors Association, (RTNDA) recognized Mitchell for her role to the cause of First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell's initial White House coverage was for NBC News, between 1981-1988. It was a time when both Ronald Reagan terms in office. Mitchell covered a range of noteworthy stories including arm control, budget tax reform, and the Iran-contra scandal. Mitchell traveled extensively along with President Reagan to summits alongside Mikhail Gorbachev and other world leaders.
